FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 1.5 Degree vegetarian?

Yes. Every product is vegetarian and made from plants, with the green dot on every pack. Nothing in our recipes comes from an animal.

Is it vegan?

Our gelatos, kulfis and sorbets are made on oat or soy milk, with no milk or other animal ingredients in our recipes. A DNA test of our vanilla gelato found no animal DNA. Our Original Gelato Biscoff won Best Vegan Ice Cream at the PETA India Vegan Food Awards 2025. We are completing FSSAI vegan logo endorsement; until it is granted, we say "plant-based" on our packs.

I'm lactose intolerant. Can I eat your gelato?

Our oat and soy bases are naturally lactose-free. In a lab test of our French Vanilla, no lactose was detected (below 0.1 g per 100 g). Some bought-in toppings and inclusions, such as biscuits and chocolate, are made in factories that also handle milk and may carry traces. If you have a milk allergy, please check the allergen statement on the pack or ask our team.

What is maltitol, and do you have options without table sugar?

Yes. Some of our gelatos and kulfis are made with maltitol, a sugar substitute (a sugar alcohol), instead of table sugar. They still contain the sugars that are naturally present in fruit, nuts and oat milk, so we don't call them "sugar-free". The nutrition panel on each pack shows the sugar per 100 g. Eaten in large amounts, sugar alcohols can have a laxative effect, so keep portions small for young children.

Why do you say "frozen dessert" and not "ice cream"?

Under Indian food law, "ice cream" must be made with milk. Ours is made with oat or soy milk, so the correct name is "frozen dessert". We make it the Italian gelato way: slow-churned, dense and served a little warmer than ice cream.

Is it tested?

Yes. Accredited laboratories have tested our products for more than 60 pesticides, and no pesticide residues were detected. Heavy metals, aflatoxins, melamine and microbes were all within FSSAI limits. We retest as our recipes change.

Is it gluten-free?

Our gelato bases are made without wheat, barley or rye; oats themselves don't contain wheat gluten. Waffles, cookies, brownies and Biscoff contain wheat, so those items are not gluten-free. If you have coeliac disease, please ask our team which flavours are safe for you on the day.

Does it contain palm oil?

Our gelato base is made with coconut oil, not palm oil. A few bought-in inclusions, such as Lotus Biscoff biscuits, contain palm oil; we say so on those product pages.

Why is it called 1.5 Degree?

1.5°C is the global warming limit agreed in Paris. Plant milks such as oat and soy generally have a much lower carbon footprint than dairy milk (Poore & Nemecek, Science, 2018), so we named ourselves after the line we want to help everyone stay on the right side of.

How is frozen gelato delivered without melting?

Orders travel through a temperature-controlled cold chain in insulated packaging with dry ice or gel packs. Dry ice is very cold: don't touch it with bare hands, and keep it away from children and pets. In Delhi-NCR you can also order via Zomato, Swiggy or Blinkit for quick delivery. See our Shipping & Delivery Policy for details.

Where are your stores?

Visit our cafés at N Block Market, Greater Kailash-1 (12 pm to 1 am) and Aurobindo Road, Hauz Khas (8 am to 1 am), our cinema kiosks in Delhi and Gurugram, and corporate cafeterias served by our partners.

We make our products, including our own oat milk, at our FSSAI-licensed plant on the NIFTEM campus, Kundli, which is certified to HACCP, ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 9001:2015.
