What's in our scoop

A scoop of 1.5 Degree plant-based gelato in our yellow cup

No hype, no fine print. Here is exactly what we make, how we make it, and what our lab tests show.

Four things we can prove

Plant-based

Made from plants

Our gelatos, kulfis and sorbets are made on oat or soy milk. A DNA test of our vanilla gelato found no animal DNA.

Made without milk

No milk in our recipes

We make our own oat milk and use it as the base. A few bought-in toppings, such as biscuits and chocolate, may carry traces of milk, and we say so on those flavours.

Naturally lactose-free

Lab-checked

Oats and soy have no lactose. In a lab test of our French Vanilla, no lactose was detected (below 0.1 g per 100 g).

No palm oil in our base

Coconut oil instead

Our gelato base uses coconut oil. Where a bought-in inclusion contains palm oil, such as Lotus Biscoff, the product page says so.

Made by us, start to finish

The gelato display counter at 1.5 Degree

We don't buy a ready-made base. We make our oat milk and our gelato at our own plant on the NIFTEM campus in Kundli, the Government of India's food-technology institute, and serve it at our cafés in Greater Kailash 1 and Hauz Khas.

What our lab tests show

We send our products to accredited independent laboratories. This is what the tests found:

What was tested Result
Animal DNA (vanilla gelato) Not detected
Lactose (French Vanilla) Not detected (below 0.1 g per 100 g)
More than 60 pesticide residues Not detected (below the lab's limit of quantification)
Heavy metals Within FSSAI limits
Aflatoxins and melamine Within FSSAI limits
Microbiology Within FSSAI limits

Tests were done on individual batches; results apply to the samples tested. We retest when we change a recipe.

Good to know

Sweetened with maltitol

Sweetened differently

Selected gelatos and kulfis are sweetened with maltitol, a sugar substitute, instead of table sugar. Fruit, nuts and oat milk still bring their own natural sugars, and the sugar per 100 g is printed on every pack. Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.

No animal ingredients

Plant-based, start to finish

There are no animal ingredients in our recipes. A DNA test of our vanilla gelato found no animal DNA, and our Original Gelato Biscoff won Best Vegan Ice Cream at the PETA India Vegan Food Awards 2025. FSSAI vegan logo endorsement is in progress.

No pesticide residues detected

60+ pesticides tested

In our lab tests, residues of more than 60 pesticides were below the lab's limit of quantification, in other words not detected.

Naturally lactose-free base

A base with no lactose

Oats and soy contain no lactose, and none was detected in our French Vanilla (below 0.1 g per 100 g). The full nutrition panel, including fat and saturated fat, is on every pack.

Allergens, plainly

Our bases are made with oats or soy, without wheat, barley or rye. Many flavours contain nuts, and some inclusions (waffles, cookies, brownies, Biscoff) contain wheat. Everything is made in a facility that handles soy, nuts and wheat. If you have an allergy, check the pack or ask our team before you order.
